On May 14 2019, it was announced the Queensland Building and Construction Commission have extended the deadlines for Part 2 and Part 3a of the Safer Buildings combustible cladding checklist.

The next two stages of the Safer Buildings Program involve the engagement of professionals to assess buildings for potential combustible cladding. Both stages have been granted a two month extension to facilitate this.

Combustible Cladding Checklist Part 2 will be extended to 31 July 2019.  The action required in Part 2 includes:

  • Engaging a Building Industry Professional
  • Completing questions 5 and 6 of the Combustible Cladding Checklist; and
  • Uploading a Building Industry Professional Statement.

Combustible Cladding Checklist Part 3a will be extended to 31 October 2019.  The action required in Part 3a includes:

  • Engaging a Fire Engineer; and
  • Giving details to QBCC using the Safer Buildings website.

There is no change to the deadline for Part 3b, which remains 3 May 2021.

The extension will allow building owners and body corporates more time to hold meetings, obtain quotes and make the decisions necessary to complete the requirements. The extensions will apply to all building owners irrespective of any previously submitted extensions.
