From 1 October 2019, paper Certificates of Title issued in Queensland will no longer have any legal effect.
Amendments to the Land Title Act 1994 (Qld) mean physical certificates of title:
• Will no longer be issued;
• Will not be considered evidence of indefeasible title; and
• Will not need to be lodged with the Titles Registry for any future dealings.
Instead, the electronic title held by the Titles Office will be the only record of ownership for land in Queensland.
Please note if you are currently holding a paper Certificate of Title as a form of security, you will need to give consideration as to an alternate option before 1 October 2019, to ensure you are protected moving forward.
If you have any further questions about the above changes and how they might affect you, please feel free to telephone our office on (07) 3220 2929 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
